Liveaboard Destinations - The Similan Islands

Welcome to the Liveaboard section of our Website.  The best dive sites in South Thailand where you can see large pelagics, whale sharks, manta rays, reef sharks are located about 90 km north west of Phuket Island in the Similan and Surin Islands which are 1 of the 10 best dive locations in the world.
The Similan Island National Marine Park includes nine islands running from south to north and numbered accordingly. The islands are low lying granite boulder formations densely covered with tropical vegetation and are home to crab-eating monkeys, dusky langurs, squirrels, bats and a large variety of tropical birds.
On the Western Side of the Islands, huge granite boulders, some as big as houses, spill in jumbled piles beneath the surface of the sea to 35 metres and beyond . Submarine peaks, canyons, caves and passageways provide scuba divers with some of the most interesting prospects in the world. Dives on 'Fantasy Reef', 'Christmas Tree Point' and 'Bird Rock' provide some great deep and drift diving where Manta Rays, Reef Sharks, Napoleon Wrasses and other Large Pelagics are frequently encountered.
On the Eastern Side of the Islands the boulders have been largely buried by sand and a wide variety of hard and soft corals. Most reefs consist of sloping dropoffs to approximately 35 metres and a highlight of any east coast dive are sightings of rare Bowmouth Guitar Sharks and Hawksbill Turtles.

Other Great Liveaboard Destinations

Koh Bon is located 21 Kms North East from the Similans. Koh Bon differs geologically from its neighbouring Islands and normally offers better visability. It is noted for frequent Leopard & Reef Shark sightings at 30-40 meters, it's coral gardens and a vertical wall reaching almost 40 meters. It is also one of the better places to see Manta Rays.
Koh Tachai lies another 20 Km North of Koh Bon and 40 Km North North East from the Similans. Koh Tachai's claim to fame is its offshore underwater ridge that runs out from the Island. This rocky ridge has an amazing amount of Soft Corals and Great Visibility.
Richelieu Rock, located near the Surin Islands has to be one of the best places in the world for Whale Shark sightings. It is a massive granite rock that is awash a low tide and drops down almost vertically to 30 meters. In the season, starting from middle January onwards, you'll have a great opportunity to see these gentle giants of the sea becuase they're often found cruising around at this time of year. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of swimming with one, Richelieu Rock is a place not to miss and gives you a great opportunity to experience you're first encounter.
